George C Nicholson, 61, died today in Tucson where he had been making his home. Funeral arrangements were pending. Sherman Eden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Laymen of the Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church will conduct worship on Lord's Day October 11. The theme from the National Council of Churches is Able to Stand. Speakers include Robert Logan Robert Brewer and Lawrence Whisler with additional participants Robert Kleese Charles Van Winkle and Harley Cole. A men’s choir directed by Ralph Kleese will sing.
Washington County court house offices will be closed Friday October 9 so officers and deputies may attend a school of instruction in Des Moines that day.
The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8 to 3 to even the World Series at one game each. The game featured strong hitting by the Yankees and solid pitching from Stottlemyre, who worked through several innings to hold the Cardinals and keep the Yankees in striking distance as the series shifted to balance.
Senator Goldwater campaigned in West Texas accusing President Johnson of dodging issues and exploiting fear. United Press International reports in Iowa that clearing skies bring frost and a hard freeze tonight, with lows from 20 to 25 north and 25 to 30 south. Friday remains mostly fair and cool, highs 55 to 60. Saturday looks mostly fair and warmer.
