Sen. Robert A Taft urged a peace time federal budget of 25 to 30 billion dollars by 1950 and called for an eight billion dollar cut in armed forces and foreign aid. He said foreign loans should end by 1950 and education programs would expire limiting veterans benefits. Taft pressed for tax relief as a key to lowering prices while criticizing Truman's veto of a Republican tax cut. He warned European nations to put their houses in order to keep American aid and spoke with Harold Stassen at Iowa events.

Government May Have to Buy Those Eggs You Don't Eat
The government may have to buy eggs on eggless days to hold up prices. In Sept the national price to farmers was 53 cents a dozen, with a 53.3 cent support level. The Agriculture Department owns millions of eggs and plans export of dried eggs while selling frozen eggs to bakers when it is safe.
