Wayland hosts an open house at the fire department with contests movies refreshments and firetruck rides hosted by Wayland Volunteer Firemen. A new yellow firetruck from Jefferson Township will be on display and a City Council purchase of an International truck is funded by federal revenue sharing over three years.
The Blair House non profit votes five directors at a 7:30 p.m. Oct 14 meeting in the Washington High School library. Parents are invited to dine Oct 15 during National Hot Lunch Week to sample district lunches, with meals at elementary, junior high, and high school locations.
The House overridden President Ford's veto of the school lunch program, with the Senate set to vote. It marks the third successful veto override this year, and Democrats claim Ford becomes the most overridden GOP president this century. Ford had objected to the cost of subsidizing lunches and breakfasts for needy and low to middle income children.

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee the United States is ready to help resolve the Palestinian question if it aids a broader Middle East peace. He urged prompt approval to deploy 200 American technicians to monitor the Sinai accord between Israel and Egypt and said the policy toward the PLO remains unchanged.
The city and county discuss a joint law enforcement center with Police Chief Ken Bauer and Mayor Harold Johnson meeting Sheriff Yale Jarvis for preliminary talks. Supporters cite improved communications. critics note uncertain costs. Bauer announced hire of Steve Johnson as eighth city patrolman, and reserve hours totaled 553 in July to September.
City Council unveils a proposal to revise Sunset Park traffic by eliminating roads, creating one way streets, opening two West Main entrances, and separating the swimming pool from other areas. The plan also calls for new parking, tree removals, and possible motorcycle restrictions amid safety concerns.
