Auditor criticizes Iowa liquor control operation

Community Chest drives advance with school and business divisions

Chest officials say the campaign continues with school and two business divisions kicked off Monday. Teachers and students will donate via special boxes in schools while adults enjoy YMCA memberships for pledges of 60 dollars or more. Fire destroys Walgren Grocery Store in Mount Pleasant

Mt Pleasant Iowa morning blaze gutted the Walgren Grocery Store owned by Benner Tea Co of Burlington. Dick Walgren estimates damages at 150000. About 50 firefighters kept the fire contained to the brick building. cause is under investigation and no spread to neighboring businesses was feared. The store is operated by the Walgren brothers.

Two-vehicle crash injures students near Cherokee Iowa

About 20 to 25 people including the Aurelia School District bus riders and drivers were injured when a tandem truck slammed into the bus at an unguarded gravel road intersection nine miles southeast of Cherokee. The bus rolled, injuries ranged from cuts and broken bones, with many transported to Sioux Valley Hospital as farm families aided responders.

Arsenic and Old Lace Opens At Washington Community Theatre

The curtain rises at 8 p.m. for the first of three performances of Arsenic and Old Lace by the Washington Community Theatre group. Tickets remain at the door for tonight and the weekend shows. A Wednesday dress rehearsal drew 35 county home residents and guests for an evening out.

Selden Reports Iowa Deficit For Fiscal Year Ended

Nixon uses Taft Hartley to end West Coast dock strike
