Nixon to announce Phase I economic plan after wage price freeze

The White House said President Nixon will address the nation at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday outlining Phase I after the 90 day wage price freeze. The House passed a 15.4 billion tax cut bill to boost individuals and corporations over three years.

ISU employes off jobs First in firm's history

About 300 Iowa Southern Utilities workers are off the job after a strike by Local 735 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The walkout, the first in the company’s history, began after the union rejected a wage and benefits offer and halted many operations while supervisory staff covered essential duties.

Iowa County supervisors urged to resign amid irregularities

A group of 263 Iowa County residents asked the three supervisors to resign after reports of irregularities in roadwork contracts and bidding practices. Two Iowa Men Dead In Highway 21 Crash

Two northeast Iowa men died in a fiery crash on Iowa 21 about one mile northwest of Dysart. Cyril Benda 59 of Belle Plaine and Gayle Bedard 36 of Waterloo were killed when Bedard driving a 12 ton truck crossed the centerline and hit Benda’s pickup, ignition followed. Bedard was ejected and died of head injuries.

Disperse youths at Clinton Law Center

A crowd of about 100 youths gathered near Clinton Law Center, hurling obscenities and objects. Police threatened riot squads after four windows were broken and three squad cars damaged, the march ending when officers arrived.

Explosion at Beirut Airport Delays Royal Jordanian Flight

A blast ripped through a pile of suitcases at Beirut airport just before loading for a Royal Jordanian flight to Amman. The plane, delayed two hours from Amman, carried 47 passengers and arrived two hours late, and the pilot called it a miracle that the bomb did not detonate in flight.
