Edward Bickert, 49, a Jesup farm hand, died after falling from a windmill on the Hilton and Wright farm while greasing the mechanism. He reportedly lost his grip about 25 feet up and suffered a skull fracture. Buchanan county coroner ruled accidental death. he is survived by his father, a sister, and a brother.

Turkeys judge dies during Ames school event
Charles Karsten, 53, a Sumner produce worker employed by Winks and Westcott, collapsed and died of a heart attack while judging turkeys at the Iowa State college turkey grading school in Ames. He entered the ring at 1 20 p m and died five minutes later, leaving a wife.

In Des Moines district court Monday attorney Ted Paul Sloane filed an answer to Mrs. Cora Utterback’s divorce petition against former Judge Hubert Utterback. The response denies desertion on November 23, 1938 and states that he was removed from the home and she would not care for him.
