Coroner’s Jury Blames Wagner in Muscatine Shootings

A coroner’s jury in Muscatine fixed blame for a tavern shooting that killed Willis L. McKenzie and Milton Rex Kilbourn. Ralph Wagner, 34, is at large as Iowa and Illinois authorities search. Mrs. Paul Hunn, 34, wounded by a stray shot, testified at the inquest.

Big Gypsum Plant For Fort Dodge

Fort Dodge E L Flinn of Certain Teed Products Corp announced leasing 80 acres east of Fort Dodge near the plant for a quarry and a new nail board plant costing about one million dollars. Stripping starts Monday as the gypsum rock lies 23 to 25 feet below surface and 40 to 55 feet of earth must be removed.

New National Guard in Year Says Grahl

DES MOINES Iowa. Brig Gen Charles H Grahl adjutant general says Iowa will form a new national guard within about a year. He expects a bigger and better guard as prewar enlistments expire and veterans may rejoin. Reorganization likely to start around August or September.

McCoid Named Judge For Trials at Eldora

District Judge Paul McCoid of Mount Pleasant was chosen as special judge to hear cases against five former employees at the state training school for boys. He begins Monday at Eldora. Preliminary hearings include O. S. Von Krog, suspended superintendent, on a conspiracy charge. Arraignment for Harold Nelson and Carl Klatt on second degree murder and conspiracy is set for Oct. 15. Hearings for Darrell T. Brown and H. J. Martin, also charged with conspiracy, will follow.

Trial Resumed Without Laval In Defection Outburst

Paris Oct. 8 UPS Laval treason trial resumed with Laval absent and his lawyers gone after he stalked from the courtroom shouting liar at the judge. Judge Mongibeaux had ejected him earlier and tried to recall him before he refused to return. Laval sulked in his cell and declared he would not come.

Andrews Services Held at Brighton

Funeral services were held for Albert Andrews 85 of Chicago at Hoskins funeral home in Brighton. He died at his Chicago home Tuesday. The body was brought to Brighton after a Chicago service for burial at Hillcrest cemetery. Rev. R. W. Fillmore conducted the services.

Obituary notes for Albert Andrews in Brighton area

Albert Andrews born on the farm west of Pleasant Plain grew to manhood in that community. He married Harriet Frazey of Brighton who died in 1937. The family home had been in Chicago for some time.
