R S Littlefield from the assessment and review board states that all entertainments and events in Iowa must pay sales tax. If any portion funds charity and the rest serves another purpose, no partial tax exemption is allowed and tax applies to the full amount.
A sad ceremony in the new Nichols High School auditorium marked the last tribute to Clarence Carney Junior Nash and Virgil Poole, three young lives lost in the Tuesday auto wreck. Hundreds mourned as their bodies lay in state and eighteen fellow students served as pallbearers.
The Iowa Democratic central committee expects about 500 Democratic women from across the state to attend a testimonial luncheon in Des Moines on Tuesday honoring Mrs. Alex Miller seeking re election as secretary of state. Sponsor is Mrs. W L Etter of Sigourney, national Democratic committeewoman.

Leo Sneppel of Riverside moves to Washington this week to open a Phillips Oil station on North Town Avenue in the former Washington Oil Company building. Leading in second inning votes, 709 favor and 295 against with 29 in favor and 26 against among non-signers. All townships carry the measure, closest margins in Marion Crawford and Cedar. About 944 of 1,000 county farmers signed 1,792 contracts. Statewide trend mirrors the three to one sentiment in favor of continuing the program next year.

Clemens W. Streigel of the Brown Mug on the Colenso hotel corner appeared before Justice J E Bovec on a public nuisance charge. Miss Mildred Anderson of Fresno, Geoif, is visiting her grandmother Mrs. Eliza beth Goode and other relatives. She has stayed in North English and Ottumwa, will depart tomorrow night for Chicago for the fairs, then return home. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Fresno and has worked at San Mateo after leaving college this summer.
The twenty two Sunday Schools of Washington county report 3713 total enrollment and 1830 average weekly attendance for the year. Cradle rolls total 662 and adults 1290 with 85 in the home department. 928 church accessions are listed from the past year.
Nearly all of the 105 rural teachers attended the Washington County meeting in the courtroom. Mr H C Moeller of Iowa State Teachers College spoke on history and reading methods while Miss Ida Huginn discussed language. Moeller commented on local seventh and sixth grade history outlines used in county schools. Four seventh grade pupils Ruth Anderson Anna Marie Britton Billy Brown and Glenn Mae Jr aided demonstrations.
