Pakistani forces inflicted heavy casualties on Indian troops in the Chhamb area of Kashmir as they tried to seize Pakistani territory. Radio Pakistan quoted the clandestine Voice of Kashmir pleading with the United Nations to stop Indian tyranny. The rebel radio claimed 175,000 people fled to Azad Kashmir amid clashes in Poonch and Rajauri.

Georgia state troopers arrested Calvin Craig grand dragon of the Georgia Ku Klux Klan after he twisted a youth's arm and hurled him into a patrol car during a racial protest. Two Negro youths, Frank Bates 17 and Alvin Harris 17, were also charged with interfering with school operations as troopers tried to move a line of 20 helmeted officers to load white students onto buses.

Reports from Radio Malaysia quoted Jakarta radio that armed bands of Indonesian Communists and rebel troops under Col Untung were marching toward central Java for a major stand against forces loyal to President Sukarno.
