New Stamp Honors Newspaper Carriers

Mrs Nanie B Vest 89 a native of Washington died Friday at her Long Beach California home after years of poor health. Funeral services are pending. She was born north of Washington in 186% to Thomas and Angelina Runyon Brindley. She lived in Long Beach 25 years and was a Methodist and Eastern Star member. Mr West preceded her in death. She was last of eight siblings and sister of the late Dora Stewart. Several nieces and nephews survive.

Final Rites For John Freeland Held In Ainsworth
Funeral services for John Elmer Freeland of Ainsworth were conducted at the Ainsworth Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Steefel officiating. Burial followed in Ainsworth cemetery. Freeland, born January 15, 1862 near Ainsworth, worked as a merchant in Ainsworth Columbus Junction and Macon Missouri, later farming at Selma Iowa. He married Mae Stephens May 24 1893 and they had six children. Surviving are Donald Elmer Freeland Wilma Thomps on Fern Hanson eight grandchildren one great grandchild and sister Nettie Marston. Two sons John Allen Carl Dean and daughter Joan Aileen preceded him in death. Music by Mrs Irene Trotter and Mrs Alice Radamker. pallbearers Roy Marr Kiugh Hazelett John Stephens John Elliott Herbert Rich Gene Stephens.

Sgt Theodore Pratt Wounded In Action In Korea
Theodore Raymond Pratt son of Frank Pratt living six miles southeast of Washington on Route one was wounded in action in Korea. A telegram from the War Department Friday confirmed the injury with reports that his hand was badly hurt by a mortar shell. A brother was wounded in action September previous year.

Four Killed Ten Injured in Express Bus Crash
An express bus carrying 16 passengers collided with a steel laden tractor-trailer on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset. Four people died and 10 were injured. The bus bound for Pittsburgh and the truck were speeding west when the rear-end collision opened the bus and tore the trailer’s rear wheels off. Bus driver Norman Crider, 24, of York, sustained a bruised knee. truck driver Charles Slaven of Parkersburg, W Va, was unhurt.
