Des Moines reports a series of budgeting workshops across 30 locations to train city officials on the new Home Rule program budgets for 1975 76. Washington hosts sessions on October 3 and 10 chaired by State Comptroller Marvin Selden. All 956 cities are urged to attend to ensure fiscal year tax collection and winter budget certification by March 15.
Appanoose Lucas and Monroe counties launch a cooperative study to map and improve social health education and related services. The project, led by Jim Cooper Arthur Streepy and William McGrath, is funded by a 27240 grant via Area XV aging agency and state aging commission. Effie Smith serves as project coordinator.
SEMCO, a four-county solid waste agency in southeast Iowa, heard Stanley Consultants project waste at about 39 031 tons annually and recommended two or three landfills rather than one or four. The plan includes transfer stations and central sites with cost data to be prepared by a study committee.
CDC expert Dr. Larry Corey warns the Port Chalmers flu, a Type A strain identified in New Zealand, is expected to spread nationwide this winter and pose a stronger threat to adults than last winter’s Type B flu.

Wyngarden 18 wife of Don Wyngarden will organize activities for 50 plus residents at $2.15 an hour with potential move to full time.
