Washington announced that Sigourney Iowa postmaster will open bids on October 17 for a new federal building site in Sigourney. The column notes federal construction plans tied to the town and its mail facilities.
Two men forced entry into 69 year old Lizzie Cairns home and beat her, stealing $200. The injured widow is in serious condition with eight scalp wounds a cut tongue and a bruised neck. She had borrowed the money to pay taxes.
E. W. Nelvin of Des Moines paid a $1 fine on charges of running a stop sign. He works with the city to set up and remove school signs in the capital city.
Winston Baker waived preliminary hearing on a concealed weapons charge. School safety patrol members say Baker failed to stop in a school zone and fired a gun into the street to frighten the youths.
Louie Teske, 82, of Owasa, was pinned under a Model T Ford in a ditch a mile south of Owasa from 10 p m Tuesday until 7 a m Wednesday. He spent the night calling for help and trying to dig out, but remained paralyzed.

Osceola dispatch reports Dick Baker 21 died after last weekend injury when struck by a truck while pushing a motorcycle. The accident occurred near Osceola with local authorities naming the victim.

Director R. M. Sorensen of the Washington county health unit presented a proposed new city milk ordinance to the council. Dairymen expressed receptiveness and cooperation. A final action was not taken and another meeting is planned before adoption of new regulations.
The French chamber of deputies approved the franc devaluation bill 354 to 217 after rapid amendments. It was sent to the senate with expected immediate passage and awaits the president's signature to become law.

The Washington high school band directed by Maurice Brayton will raise funds for new uniforms before district music contests next April. A tag day is set for this Saturday with band members soliciting donations to support costuming believed to boost contest performance.
At 8:30 tonight the town releases 500 balloons from four corner buildings to cap Fall Opening. Each balloon contains a prize number redeemable at local merchants. The Municipal band leads a 7:15 street light and unveiling, with a monster pep meeting at 8:00 and a public address system guiding events.

President Roosevelt addressed thousands at the Davis Elkins amphitheater in Elkins West Virginia amid a drizzle praising wildlife protection. He cited government wildlife sanctuary gains since June 1934 totaling over two and a half times prior, funded by 15 million emergency dollars, and pledged continued vigorous action for the next four years.
Second hand coats to be used for chil dren need in WPA sewing room. Mrs Catherine Null supervisor says bring garments to the sewing room or to the courthouse basement for collection by the program.
Frank Crummer, once a box car robber, now lectures on crime and speaks of quitting for eleven years. He recently went on a three week hunger strike and, arraigned for a petty crime, became so weak a doctor was summoned. The doctor prescribed tea with white syrup, and Crummer now drinks four cups daily.
Ed Debner of Burlington was arrested near the east edge of Washington after a pursuit by state highway patrolman R. Hohl. He appeared before Justice J. E. Bovee and was ordered held to district court on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Debner signaled readiness to plead guilty in the district court session.
