Arch McFarlane a former Iowa House speaker and senator was chosen on the nineteenth ballot to run for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket in Des Moines. His selection fills the ticket vacancy caused by the death of Clin F Kimball. the state central committee of twenty two unanimously approved him. Frank Shane led the ballot early, with twelve votes needed for election, while McFarlane trailed in second place at adjournment and Senator Shatf of Clinton held four votes.
