A mild Thanksgiving Day in Washington featured a morning union service at Second U P church with Rev Gray delivering a sermon on Philippians 5 20. Charities and baskets from W R C and P E O aided the needy while many businesses closed for family gatherings. The day included a live pigeon shoot at the Ballpark by the Washington Red and Gun Club and a Fire Department supper and ball in Music Hall raising about fifty dollars.
Trains from east west and southwest bring forty guests to the Letts family reunion in Lettsville Columbus Jr Fairfield and Marshalltown. Notables include J R Letts N H Letts and Noah Letts who offered an historical sketch. A literary program featured poems recitations music and a poem by Mrs J R Letts while the day closed with old friends reuniting and plans for future gatherings.
Miss Myrtle Ewing entertained a number of young friends yesterday afternoon from three until six in honor of her eleventh birthday. Light refreshments were served. Among those present were Alice Stuart Jeanette Cherry Ethel Bailey Helen Stewart Lottie Guthrie Helen Work Amy Barrows Edna Bailey and David and Carl Burham Keota.
Miss Josie Johnson entertained a few friends yesterday evening at Siegel Johnson’s home. The gathering featured games and a delightful social time. Oysters and fruit were served amid casual conversation and warm hospitality.
The Bonhomie Cooking Club held its annual dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J J Glasgow on Wednesday evening. Guests included members and their spouses with souvenirs from Mrs Walter Wilde. Despite a salted coffee substitute, the two hour event was a success with a praised bill of fare and merriment.
A Pleasant Home hosted a family reunion with a stylish Thanksgiving dinner. Guests included Mr and Mrs A Hall of Colfax and Mr and Mrs Harvey Young of Winfield, plus Mr and Mrs Frank Graves of Des Moines staying for a few days.
About one hundred children were entertained yesterday at the Second church by the King's Daughters. A fine dinner was served from 10 a m until 2 30 p m. It was a joyful day for the little ones and the young ladies are to be congratulated for the success. The tables were waited upon by Misses Mike Lewis Tina Townsley Jennie and Minnie Conner Jennie Maxwell Ella Woodruff Mary Duff Maud Shields Mollie Cherry and Mrs May Tallman. Gentlemen who assisted were Earl Lewis A C Rankin Fort and Don Sherman.
Yesterday at the Talmage home in southwest Washington, Martin Smith wed Pearl Hildebrand with Rev. Masson officiating. The couple will live at Mrs. Talmage’s residence and extend congratulations are offered by The Journal. Ballardvale Lithia Water advertised as a typhoid preventive.

Robi Fisher of the Heights fell while carrying his grandson Harvey Matthews to bed Wednesday at 9 30 PM. He lost his balance, was unconscious for a time, neighbors helped, and he remained confined to bed the next day. Harvey avoided major injuries with only a bump on the head.

The Temple Quartette performed to a large audience at The Graham lecture course in a high class program. All four artists impressed with fine vocal and interpretive skill. The bass J. G. Willard and reader Misa Ridgeway drew repeated recalls, followed by George Kennan.
The Graham presents Charley's Aunt next Tuesday evening. Demand for tickets is strong with about one hundred fans from Winfield and Crawfordsville planning a special train. Seats are 35 cents in Parquet or Balcony.
Two intoxicated men created a terrorizing scene in Washington last night. Deputy Black arrested them and locked them in the county jail. One called himself Tim Donovan and the other Texas Jack, later revealing the name John Harvey. They were ordered to thirty days in custody.

Tom Miller sustained severe facial burns after a candle exploded in his face on Wednesday. The burns cover several spots near the right eye, with some risk of lasting marks, though the physician expects they can be removed.
The city fire department hosts another supper tonight with many eatables donated and urges all who can to attend for a good cause. Last night’s guests said it was one of the best meals they ever had. Mrs. L D Robinson hosted a dinner featuring turkey and sides. William Paul Moothart returned from a business trip to Independence, Iowa.
