Charles City column reports Chester Goen of Greene wed Josephine Noling of Alta Vista on Saturday. By Wednesday Goen, 19, is jailed here accused of passing a forged check at Allison recently.
Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce distributed twenty five free turkeys to local families for Thanksgiving, aiding twenty five Cedar Falls households with holiday meals.
Irving L. King 65 owner of King Hatcheries and former University of Iowa education professor collapsed and died at the Iowa State bank in Iowa City. Physicians attributed death to heart disease.
Glenn Pierce a 38 year old state prison trusty escaped from prison farm No 1 on Denmark road north of Fort Madison after lunch. He did not report for work at the dairy at 1 16 p m prompting a search. Pierce came to Fort Madison last August from Winneshiek county to serve a 10 year sentence for arson.
Two youths robbed a Cincinnati branch bank office aiming for about 800 dollars. A 65 year old cashier faced a fatal revolver shot to protect roughly 2100 more in the vault. Suspects fled in a gray Dodge sedan with Minnesota plates.
Clouds of steam covered West Okoboji lake as a sudden temperature drop froze the water. Ice formed on the smaller bays and ponds, ending steam plumes and allowing early skating on the lake and nearby waters.
Louis Baird and Wisie Long of the Chamber of Commerce seek a bic evergreen tree for Central Park as this year’s holiday centerpiece. They are pursuing three possibilities and hope to place and illuminate the tree by Saturday evening. The plan includes large top stars on park electroliers and lit small trees along storefront curbs.
Miss Schenken is the great grand niece of Dr. Robert Koch, discoverer of the tubercle bacillus in 1882. Adolph Koch, Dr. Koch’s brother and Miss Schenken’s great grandfather, settled in Benton county near Keystone. Since 1907 funds from Christmas seals support tuberculosis campaigns run by Iowa associations.
Registrations pour in for the Midwest Regional convention of the International Association of Y's Men in Washington. An all out effort includes a single men questionnaire promising a dance partner, guest speaker L. M. Chipman, and host city support with hotel, parking, and decorations. Over two hundred attendees expected from Duluth Lincoln Milwaukee Chicago St Louis and Iowa clubs with Burlington set to charter a new local club. A ladies program with luncheon and bridge at the Country club is planned.
Postmaster M C DeLong reports the federal unemployment census for Washington is done with 422 cards returned. Most are part time workers seeking full time. Many are American Pearl button workers or farm laborers affected by the off season. No extra help used. mailers distributed cards on routes and via general delivery.
In Osceola area the Lanphier family faces charges of failure to send four of six children to school. County official J J Lynch filed the case, tied to a seven year dispute with the Tracy school board over a mile of clay road to the bus stop. The oldest child, age about eight, is crippled and unable to walk to meet the bus.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, jailed seven times for anti-British activity, warns in Bombay that India is on the brink of a revolution. He says the British government may face serious trouble as villagers organize despite repression.
Japanese forces announced capturing Wusth, a key Chinese railway junction, as they push toward Nanking. The Japanese spokesman said the advance was rapid and continued despite Chinese resistance, signaling a move on the capital.
Walter Schmidt, 20, was accidentally shot and killed while a companion, Russell Baker, 21, inspected a gun they had stolen. Baker, already serving 106 years for two coal company robberies with Schmidt, faced the incident after a drinking trip following the robberies. The discharge occurred during the inspection of the weapon.
A Cass county district court jury deliberated 17 hours and ruled Mrs. Mary Schrader of Audubon not entitled to damages in her $10,000 heart balm suit against George Johnson of Atlantic. Schrader claimed he promised to marry her and sought damages.

Shawnee Oklahoma reports Chicago physicians will examine Charles Hester, a 19 year World War veteran known for a ticking sound from his head since a shell blast in France. The Veterans Bureau arranges diagnosis at Hines Memorial Hospital, Chicago after radio publicity.
Harry Edwards of Cotter, a farmer, was killed instantly when his car failed to stop at a crossing and was struck by a westbound Burlington Trailways bus on highway No 2 at Cotter. The bus veered into a ditch. no one aboard was hurt. Edwards left behind a wife and five children. Funeral plans were to be announced.
State Senator Claire Dewey announced sending an invitation to Thomas E. Dewey to visit Des Moines and address Iowans. She argues a New York style criminal prosecution setup could aid the war on crime, and notes Tom Dewey is a distant cousin of Claire and Judge Charles A. Dewey.
Major General Andrew Moses, head of the Hawaiian Department, urged adding shore batteries and long range aircraft to Hawaii defenses. He said such measures would make the Pacific Coast invulnerable and hinted at future stationing of a large air force for patrols up to 1,000 miles.

Des Moines reports WPA officials announce new plans and specifications must be submitted to Washington Iowa city council for a proposed 30000 pool. The government approved the project October 19 1925 and an 18502 grant for labor costs and part of material. Washington will need at least 17055 from city funds. WPA Planning Engineer G Parsons notes rising material and labor costs since approval two years ago necessitate updated plans.
The Forum committee lists speakers for the winter meetings led by Dr. T Z Koo of China and GC Douglas, with details released by the organizing group in Clinton.
Representative Hamilton Fish Jr of New York says the New Deal should change its tune from Happy Days are Here Again to The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down. He criticizes the policy as going around in circles and achieving nothing.
