An attempt to wreck the Burlington east bound fast mail No 8 near Russell failed after ties placed on the track were struck at sixty miles an hour. Most ties scattered but one wedged in the pilot, causing only a minor delay. The incident remains under investigation.
Fairfield announces a six city Iowa State League for 1900 with El don Brighton Bonaparte Washington Centerville and Fairfield. J Peck Sharp of Fairfield will manage the local club while Ted Gibson and Tom Vallely serve as umpires though neither has signed for next season. Peck promises a winner and mentorship for young players.
Kenosha Wisconsin November 25 Charles Viti confess es to killing Tony Bruno in self defense alleging Bruno tried to force him to murder Sam Rosso over a wife’s alleged affair. Viti says he fired five shots and Bruno fell. police hint at Mafia connections as Viti is jailed. Racine Wisconsin also reports 150 molders refuse to work over wage demands per Turner. Chicago president Fox orders return to work. Tennessee to name H Clay Evans as Republican VP candidate. Russian M Feodoroff claims a flying machine invention reaching 108 mph.
A new group named the Spanish-American War Veterans splits from an existing body in Washington on November 25. It welcomes regular and volunteer service members from the Spanish-American War and current Philippine War volunteers with honorable discharges. Admiral Dewey is named commander in chief and Governor Roosevelt senior vice president. Helen Gould sponsor. Liller denounces efforts to turn the old order into an Ohio affair.
The Kentucky Court of Appeals will decide today in the Nelson county contested election case over 1198 votes certified for W. P. instead of W. S. Taylor. Fond du Lac Wis Nov 25 A default divorce case from Sheboygan appeared in circuit court before adjournment. Plaintiff Herman I Wilder and defendant Mrs Mary E Wilder have three children the youngest aged 17. He seeks an absolute divorce and offers $50 a month alimony. The court took the matter under advisement.
John McNulta as receiver of the National Bank of Illinois sues the city of Indianapolis and officials to recover money held as a guaranty repair fund for the Minehaha Granite company. The guaranty time limit has long since expired.
Professor Ray Simpson manager of a dramatic agency at 1520 Olive street was shot and killed in his office shortly after 38 p m yesterday. The fleeing suspect is said to be Francis Robinson a female impersonator who reportedly threatened to kill Simpson.
