DES MOINES The state supreme court freed directors of the Commercial Building and Loan Securities Co from personal liability on $600,000 of the firm s bonds. The decision holds that bond holders cannot pursue individual officers for liability when bonds were issued with specific protections against personal elimination.
Margaret Elizabeth Cook wife of Louis Cook former chairman of the Iowa Tax Board is dead at age 44 leaving six children. She was a noted Iowa writer and contributor to national magazines and was closely associated with Col S W Brockhart in political campaigns.
Mayor Hugh P. Finerty proposes an ordinance to impose equal penalties on miners who buy beer in violation of state statutes and on proprietors who sell it. He argues vendors run a legitimate business but are not protected when minors obtain beer through no fault of their own.
Cedar Rapids Attorney General Edward L. O'Con nor argued punishment severity alone fails to deter crime. He said criminals believe few are caught and blamed maudlin sympathy for hindering prevention efforts.
The Rev. W. F. Graham 57 moderator of the Town synod of the United Presbyterian church was fatally struck by a car on Highway 8 north of Allerton. Frank Garton of Humeston drove the vehicle alleged to have hit Graham who stepped onto the concrete unaware of the approaching car. Graham was a leader in the prohibition party in Iowa, director of Tarkio College, and had served as U P church pastor at West Chester. He and his wife have six children surviving.
Mason City officials revoked the Granada cafe beer permit for proprietor Frank M. Ronsella after officers found alcohol on the premises. It marked the first license revocation and council backed tighter regulation of beer parlors.

Ella Alkire of Brighton died at her home in Brighton after a long illness. She was about 43 and had lived there since girlhood. She is survived by daughters Mrs Velda Voster of Philadelphia and Harper Alkire of Clinton, with a nephew Ray George of Philadelphia and another nephew Gilbert deceased. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery beside her parents. Funeral arrangements to be announced.

Private funeral at Walton home conducted by Rev M LeFever with burial in West Chester cemetery. She was born in Ohio October 4 1849 and lived in the area most of her life. survived by eleven children in multiple towns.
