Des Moines nov 24 21 proposals to cut Iowa taxes face county committees for consideration They claim to reduce the tax burden by 20 to 25 million dollars annually The list from the state interim committee includes eliminating mandatory levies consolidating offices four year terms and other cost saving steps.
Governor Dan Turner warned against lax laws and urged deeper retrenchment in state spending to cut taxes. He advocated equitable tax distribution, support for schools with frill removal, and targeted levies on stocks bonds and luxury items while opposing a general sales tax. He urged education fundamentals and farm stability.
The governor asks large insurers to reduce Iowa farm mortgage rates and forego principal collections during the emergency. He predicts insurers will soon view Iowa mortgages as strong investments, arguing a landslide of confidence is needed after a period of doubt.

Shafer received up to ten years in Fort Madison prison while Ward Shafer John Downs and Arnold Morrison each faced up to ten years in Anamosa reform school. County Attorney Morrison prosecuted. Col C J Wilson served as defense counsel. The group pled guilty to stealing property valued over 250 dollars on the night of Saturday November 14.
The League of Nations council completed a draft resolution for a Manchuria inquiry commission but China demanded troop withdrawal first. Beijing criticized the plan and insisted Japanese forces leave before any inquiry proceeds.

Washington residents of all faiths are invited to a community Thanksgiving service at the Presbyterian church Thursday at 10 a.m. The 60 minute service features sermons and readings by pastors from St Pauls Evangelical United Presbyterian and other churches. Music by the Presbyterian choir. The offering supports the unemployment relief committee’s work.

A committee announced the successful completion of a campaign to raise 100000 dollars to establish a new bank in Washington to replace the Commercial Savings Bank closed in October. The bank will take over 100 percent good assets approved by the state banking department and aim to accelerate funds realisation for depositors.
