Cyclone Death Toll in India May Surpass Fifteen Thousand
Officials in Andhra Pradesh report the death toll from a southern Indian cyclone could exceed 15,000 with cholera now reported in the region. The cyclone struck with 90 mph winds and an 18 foot tidal surge, destroying at least 13 villages and leaving about 100,000 homeless as power and water systems failed and large swaths of farmland flooded. Clocks Built With Walnut for Fifteen Children by Farmer
Aubrey Guyer, 73, retired from a West Union Elgin farm, spent 12 years crafting 16 one piece walnut grandfather clocks for his 15 children and himself. He cut wood from the farm timber, bought clockworks from Excelsior Minnesota, and handmade the cases finishing with tung oil. The 83% inch tall Spirit of 76 clocks now chime in near unison for the owners in Clermont and surrounding area.
