A sale advertises 150 dozen ladies handkerchiefs with hem stitching and embroidery, 40 dozen children's hem-stitched handkerchiefs, and 25 dozen men's hem-stitched and embroidered handkerchiefs.
Handkerchiefs offered at 2c and 3c for Se. Choice from 40 dozen up to 20c each. Embroidered, plain hem-stitched, and initial linen handkerchiefs at 10c and 12c. Some retailing as high as 30c. Priced 20c and 25c as the greatest and best handkerchiefs ever sold. Finely embroidered, new styles, never seen for less than 50c.
A charity service was held last evening at the First Church to raise funds for Armenian relief. Local clergy led prayers and a program of music and addresses drew a large congregational turnout.
A union service at First Church brought together Baptist Methodist Presbyterian Covenanter and two U P churches for talks on Armenian persecution by the Turks. Rev Gray Rev Allen Rev Logue Rev Thorn Rev Stark and Rev Davidson spoke, urging aid and protection for missionaries. A collection of over 45 dollars was taken to support destitute Armenians.
City pastors delivered temperance sermons at yesterday morning services. One preacher praised Christianity for transforming followers from swine to men, likening temptation to Homeric enchantresses and praising the Savior as a pure white flower that guides men away from drink and toward virtue.
Mayor H E McCollum and J Hite ship fine horse loads to St Louis and Buffalo with companions. Temples stage Charley's Aunt in Washington on Tuesday December 1 with tickets 25c to 60c, season tickets available. Miss Bessie Buchanan returns to Fairfield. Rev Seymour departs Libertyville for Pleasant Hill to preach today.
Saturday brought pay for Rock Island workers with $4,509.97 issued to City residents for last month. An additional $1,000 went to training crews who live locally but cash at Valley Junction, totaling over $5,580 weeks circulation in the area.
Weather forecast notes showers this afternoon in eastern Iowa with colder temperatures and fair conditions in the west. Tonight remains cold with showers in the east and fair in the west. Tuesday expected to be fair and colder.
The remains arrived from Chicago with daughter Miss Ellen Beggs. Funeral services conducted yesterday at three o clock with Rev. Davidson and Rev. Logue leading prayers and Scripture. Psalm 28 sung. benediction at the grave. Pallbearers included S A White, Win Blair, E Norton, M Y Wallace, Col Palmer and HH McCollum.
Members of the 19th Iowa expect a large reunion probably on the seventh of next month as a committee meets this evening to plan arrangements and select a location. The veterans enjoy the gatherings more each year and deserve the rally.
No preaching services have been held for some time but Sunday school continues weekly with about forty scholars and progress in the work.
A union service will be held at the Second church on Thanksgiving day with preaching at 10 30 a m by Rev Robt Gray of the Baptist church. Everyone is invited to worship at this service.
The first services in some time were held at the Christian church yesterday with Rev. G. J. Massey preaching in the morning and Rev. Seymour of Libertyville delivering an evening sermon. Efforts are underway to secure a permanent pastor for the charge.
A stranger, intoxicated on Saturday evening, announced his presence to many people. He encountered an officer and was brought before Justice Rogers who ordered a $5.10 fine plus court costs.
An old advertisement offers one hundred dollars for an untreatable catarrh cure. It lists F J Cheney Co Toledo as the proprietor and includes endorsements from West Traux Walding Kinnan Marvin as Toledo druggists. It asserts internal action on blood and mucous surfaces and promotes Hall's pills at 75 cents per bottle with testimonials free.

Meda Runion of Keota dies at her parents’ home after a long illness of consumption. A niece of Mrs. J. A. Young and Mrs. Thos Brindley she was well known in the city and had recently enjoyed a brief visit with relatives. Funeral services are set for tomorrow afternoon at the family residence in Keota.
A new social group the Merry Maids formed by Washington's young women will meet every two weeks on Tuesday evenings. Miss Martha Samson is president and the roster includes Anna Henderson Ethel Smouse May Anderson Kesle Daugherty Cora Brindley Alice Rupp Laura Bowman and others.
A Thanksgiving service will be held at Covanter church on Thursday at 10 30 am. Rev Allen will preach. All are invited.
The Journal reports James A. Cunningham chosen as Post Master after a lengthy contest. It notes a congressman's influence in such appointments and mentions Cunningham's son-in-law Harry Bell possibly returning to a deputy role. Some favor a local resident for the deputy post.
A suspicious party near Ainsworth was taken into custody and brought before Mrs Turbott for identification. She could not identify the burglar, who targeted her husband’s watch, and he was released.
