Contributions to the Washington Community Chest lag behind the 1975 goal. Al Swarthout, general chairman, said about $25,000 has been pledged, 62 percent of the $39,000 target, leaving roughly $15,000 to be raised in the residential drive. The national economy is impacting donations, but efforts continue over the next days. If short, 14 recipient organizations will receive smaller benefits. Swarthout urged residential workers to finish calls promptly and noted Mrs. Dale Faulkner chairs the residential division.

The Dennis Berger family of rural Wellman was honored as the Region 7 sweepstakes winner in the 22nd annual Iowa Soil Conservation Awards. At a Captain’s Table banquet, about 75 people recognized Berger 36 for pioneering tile outlet terraces and extensive soil conservation on their 817 acre farm, including 190 terraced acres, erosion structures, grassed waterways, and drainage tile.

Drs MOLVED (UK)an attorney general's opinion held today that wine bottles may be used for decorative or display purposes if the bottle is rendered unfit for reuse as a container immediately after it is emptied.
