Township fire protection offered by Washington city
The city of Washington offers round the clock rural fire protection for 7,055 homes in five townships Washington Jackson Franklin Marion and Cedar totaling an assessed value of 68 689 962 with an initial estimate of 30 000 to start the program Trustees from each township met and set a December 4 date for further talks with more cost estimates due. If adopted the plan would involve a tax levy up to 40 cents per 1 000 of assessed valuation to fund fire protection and would use city equipment and volunteers at a lower overall cost than township own and operate options. The Farmers Mutual Insurance Company will cease rural fire services March 1 1976 and state law requires township trustees to provide protection.
