County Teachers In Meeting Here

One hundred teachers and 50 Future Teachers Club members attended the fall meeting of the Washington County Teachers Association at the new junior high building. Keith Vetter spoke on education aid while Russell Bannister discussed the ISEA credit union. Bonafide delegates were elected to the ISEA assembly with Bannister as delegate and Brice as alternate.

Local Students Prepare Lil Abner at Washington High

Washington Community High School vocal students will begin work on the operetta Lil Abner under director Vernon Feuerheim who announced its selection for next spring. Casting will start soon and rehearsals will follow. The Broadway hit features Daisy Mae and Marryin Sam with Dog Patch residents battling to save their town from an atomic bomb site in a humorous musical tale.

Iowa corn harvest at 88 percent state wide

Des Moines reports Iowa corn harvest at 88 percent with soybeans nearly finished after a week of rapid taking. Weather held favorable for 62 days, harvests ahead of last year and the 80 percent average with northeast and south central areas slowest to finish. Livestock forage from pastures matched year ago.

Mrs Linch's Father Dies in Washington

Clyde Adams father of Mrs Jesse Linch of Washington died Monday in Richland Washington after six months illness. Funeral plans were undecided but to be held in Richland. Survivors include his daughter, his mother, a brother and a sister in Mt Pleasant and another brother in Burlington. He formerly lived in Mt Pleasant before moving to Washington during World War II.

Washington YMCA announces a six lesson junior high dance program for boys and girls in weekly sessions. First class 4 pm Monday December 3, lasting 6 to 8 pm. Thanksgiving Service Invites Washington Residents

All residents of the Washington area are invited to the union Thanksgiving Service at the Baptist Church at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Organized by the Washington Ministerial Association, the Rev. Waco PTA Hears Talk On Student Exchange

Ralph Taylor of Mt. Pleasant regional coordinator for the American Field Service spoke at the Crawfordsville meeting of the Waco Parent-Teacher Association. He outlined the program and benefits of foreign student exchanges as about 100 attendees listened while the Crawfordsville junior high band performed selections under Herbert P. Jones.

Chicaqua Chapter Election and Duck Calling Contest

The Izaak Walton meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. will elect officers and host the annual duck calling contest open to all. Winners represent the county at the state contest in Des Moines. Plans include the Wild Game Dinner on December 12 and color films by Prof. Oldberg of Iowa City after the dinner.

A near capacity audience at Washington High School heard John Weld speak and view his films of Hong Kong and the Orient in Freightboat to Asia. The downstairs and balcony were well filled and many favorable comments were recorded. The next Travel and Adventure program is set for December 10, sponsored by the Washington Kiwanis Club with season tickets still available.

A National Farmers Organization meeting at the Franklin Center School elected new Grain and Dairy Board members for Washington County. 4-H Members Attend Fall Camp Near Madrid Iowa

Four-H youth from Washington County plus John son County joined a weekend at the State 4-H campgrounds near Madrid Iowa. The group plus staff toured talks on money management and social activities.
