Mrs. Eaton Dies at Muscatine on Brief Illness
Mrs. D. T. Eaton died today at Hershey hospital Muscatine after a short illness. Aunt of Mrs. Charles Murdock of Washington she lived here a number of years ago and was sister of Mrs. J. M. Bratten. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Ralph Wittich funeral home 210 Cedar Street Muscatine. She would have been 90 next month.

A Des Moines woman identified as Mrs. Frank E. Kemp died at Fort Dodge hospital after a head-on collision seven miles south of Fort Dodge on highway 169 last night. Her husband was hospitalized with injuries along with two other persons.

The House Ways and Means Committee rejected a bid by Rep. Reed to hold a hearing on an alternate tax plan during discussions of Truman's four billion dollar excess profits tax proposal. Iowa farmer found murdered near Harpers Ferry
Leonard Garin, 46, a farmer living near Harpers Ferry, was found shot once in the right side at the Clem Cassidy home. Mrs. Cassidy, about 44, was taken for questioning as authorities planned an inquest and autopsy at Waukon. A .22 rifle was found in the washroom.

Four Brothers Wounded in Hunting Accident Near Waterloo
Four Steele brothers were shot when a shotgun discharged as a fifth brother dropped the weapon near Lincoln. Francis Steele 33 Eldon was hit in the arms legs and abdomen and is listed in good condition. Frank 27 Ottumwa Harry 26 and Gene 16 Douds were wounded in the legs. Cousin Orville Steele 50 Ottumwa reports they were loading game into a pickup when the gun fired.

Judge Grants Limited Injunction Changes in John Deere Strike
District Judge W. T Evans kept a temporary injunction against mass picketing at John Deere’s Waterloo plant and allowed limited modifications for CIO United Auto Workers. In Des Moines, strikers wives led picketing at the gates while workers persuaded others to return home. Company attorney Frederic Miller accused the union of flouting the order and said the firm would sue. Seven plants in Iowa and Illinois had been strikebound since September 1 over wages. Evans allowed eight pickets at the Waterloo main gate and four at other gates, with lines within 109 feet of gates, easing prior limits from 200 feet.
