Eight Die As C-119 Flaming Boxcar Crashes Near Billings
Eight of 16 aboard the C-119 transport were killed when an engine shed a propeller and another engine failed as the aircraft hit a creek bank ten miles northeast of Billings Montana. A Monday afternoon windstorm struck Crawfordsville and Wayland areas causing thousands of dollars in farm losses. At Richard Stephens Farm near Crawfordsville a two year old machine shed and garage were leveled, machinery damaged, and a pickup truck, tractor, and other equipment toppled or moved. The George Dare home remained intact. Graber Farm also reported roof loss and a moved chicken house with a twisted machine shed after the storm.
