Villisea Yegges cracked the Meadow Gold Creamery safe during the weekend and stole $40, while $100 remained missing. Police investigation ongoing.
Mise Edith Flickinger, 50, a Council Bluffs vocal instructor, answered the front door bell, tripped on a step and fell, breaking her leg and lacerating her forehead.
St. John Evangelical church of Haverhill celebrated a debt free milestone with a Sunday victory dinner attended by about 150 people. Mrs. Charles Amendt lit the candle that burned the final note, marking a 13 year fundraising drive and freeing the church from a $33,000 debt.
A corn crib and outbuildings at Robert Johnson's farm near Dike burned after neighbors husked corn and later the barn and machine shed were destroyed. Firemen from here and Dike fought the blaze but saved little. losses estimated at about 5000 dollars.

The Carlisle high school bungled burglars failed to crack the safe. Principal W. M. Sherman said about 59 dollars in football receipts appeared to be the thieves aim. In Toronto burglars broke into the Klahn store and stole over 100 suites of clothing.
Grinnell students from about 795 to 835 pupils collectively raise fifty thousand dollars for self help through college. Eight thousand three hundred dollars come from sources other than the college, notably the National Youth Administration. Ernest J. Plambeck a salesman shot his wife after an embrace then killed himself. Mrs. Plambeck was taken to a Davenport hospital with a bullet wound to the head. doctors said her chances were slim. Police Chief Sam Kelly investigated at the hotel.
Governor Kraschel directs the state parole board to consult the state bureau of investigation for convict records when considering paroles. He notes records may include aliases and interstate information not in state files and says the board supports access to this information to avoid releasing repeat offenders. The Iowa Supreme Court upholds the death sentence of Franz Jacobsen, 29, of Ottumwa, for the murder of Catherine Leahy, a waitress, last November. Jacobsen, on death row at Fort Madison since January, had appealed from the Wapello County verdict and is slated to hang February 24, 1938, after firing a revolver at Miss Leahy with two officers nearby.
