Snyder Calls for 75 Percent Excess Profits Tax in Congress
Treasury Secretary John W. Snyder urged the Ways and Means Committee to levy a 75 percent excess profits tax on corporations to raise about 34 billion dollars annually. He described the proposal as part of the administration’s plan to boost federal revenue and fund defense costs. President Truman backed retroactivity to July 1 and signaled further tax increases may follow if military spending remains high. The plan would use the 1948-49 years as a base for calculation.

Funeral Friday for Mrs Lucy Rogall 71
Funeral services for Mrs Lucy Rogall who died Tuesday morning at her home south of Pleasant Plain will be held Friday at 10 AM at the Polishville Catholic church south west of Brighton. Rev Paul Whetstine will officiate with burial in the adjacent cemetery. Surviving daughters include Mrs Lou Voyles and Mrs Joseph Fer ency in Chicago and Mrs Walter Winikatz, plus two more in East Pleasant Plain. three sons Leonard Frank and Hierman also survive.

William Munro 73 Dies in Iowa City
William Stephen Munro, longtime farmer west of West Chester, died in an Iowa City hospital Tuesday at 4 45 pm. He was 73, lived in Iowa City since 1946, and is survived by a son Davin C Munro and daughter Grace Olmsted, among others. Funeral Friday at 2 pm at Jones funeral home, Elm Grove Cemetery. He was born September 6 1877 in West Chester, educated as an electrical engineer at Iowa State College in 1904, married Nellie Woodard in Manila on June 27 191?. she died September 7 194?. He was a Presbyterian member.

Plane Crash Kills Six in Oklahoma Mountains
In the rugged Winding Stair mountains of southeastern Oklahoma six people died when a twin engined plane crashed. No survivors were found. Officials say the Navy trainer, missing en route from Lincoln Nebraska to New Orleans, is the suspected aircraft. A game ranger first at the scene confirmed the crash.

Union strikers at the John Deere Co. Des Moines works halted production. Plant manager A G Slade announced plans for an injunction to protect workers. Several cars were damaged by rocks and debris as hundreds of pickets blocked entry and some foremen allegedly tried to run over pickets. A non union worker, Dale Williams, was treated for a minor head injury from a rock. Pickets occupied the driveways at the main gate while smaller groups patrolled other gates.
