Des Moines state secretary of agriculture Ray Murray announced that 5 816 cribs of corn, or 6 795 409 bushels, had been resealed as of November. The department estimates the combined resealed and independently financed corn at ten million bushels, and no new corn will be sealed until after December 1.
Muscatine officially started its first Community Chest drive to raise 22 875 pounds for social service public health Boy Scouts YWCA YMC A next year. About 185 solicitors fanned out to seek funds for the combined budgets.
Mrs. Pauline Given Swalm an 84 year old former editor of the Des Moines Register died Tuesday at her Washington DC home She was the wife of the late Col Albert Swalm who served as American consul at Hamilton Bermuda The couple previously lived in Iowa where Col Swalm edited the Oskaloosa Herald and was active in Republican politics The deceased was a newspaper woman before her marriage.
In Davie and Jefferson counties sheriff contests ended in ties after unofficial counts. In Jefferson Melntire, Republican syn dicate foresheriff, beat Lane Stansbery by a single vote after a recheck left the result tied. The candidates chose a lottery to decide the contest with MeIntire's name drawn.
Burlington reports Wade Melean received 11 months and 15 days in jail plus a $300 fine. He loses voting rights for three years after being caught marking election tickets with a pencil while serving as clerk. Watchers observed the act from the rear.

Wapello November 14 Sheriff George Oakes of Louisa county prefers not to handle the execution of Tony Thompson but will perform the duty if assigned. This would be Louisa county’s first capital punishment in its history, with prior executions in the district dating back over 90 years. Oakes is a World War veteran who has witnessed multiple executions and supported capital punishment.

Carl Guther fell down the stairs at his home yesterday and injured the back of his neck. An x ray taken at Washington county hospital will determine the injury. He remains at home and the duration of his absence from his studio is not known.

Addison M. Baker died today at his home 215 North Second avenue. Funeral services will be held Friday at two o'clock at the L. A. Jones funeral home. He was formerly a resident of the West Chester community. Further information on his life in Washington county will be published tomorrow.
Last night the Bethlehem commandery Knights Templar held its annual inspection at the Masonic temple. Sir Knight J. J. Pelmulder of Ottumwa served as inspecting officer while Federal Judge Charles A. Dewey could not attend. Wilder Bell led the commandery during the inspection. Guests included Bir Pinaer and Ottumwa attendees, who joined a dinner prior to the event.
Des Moines reports a push to nominate Governor Clyde L. Herring of Iowa for vice president in 1936 with support from national figures Kramer Cohen and Kay. They pledged Iowa delegates' backing if Herring won reelection, while Herring denies interest in a United States Senate seat, fueling talk of a Kraschel gubernatorial run and Utterback as a potential senator.
Des Moines reports the vigorous probe into alleged libelous statements by Republicans in the recent campaign appears abandoned. Governor Herring would not comment and the attorney general’s office indicated the inquiry would be dropped.
