50 Die As United Jet Crashes At Salt Lake City
A United Air Lines Boeing 727 carrying 90 aboard burst into flames on landing at Salt Lake Municipal Airport. Forty died in the wreckage and 50 survived, many injured. Survivors escaped through jammed doors as rescuers fought flames and smoke, with some leaping onto the wings or sliding onto the runway.

U S Forces Repel Viet Cong Attack Near Saigon
United States infantrymen of the 1st Division repelled a dawn assault by about 1,000 Viet Cong on a rubber plantation north of Saigon. The battle left more than 100 Viet Cong dead, with American losses described as light. American forces, aided by artillery and air strikes, secured Highway 13 as B52s struck Viet Cong bases in Binh Long Province. Near Qui Nhon, an American helicopter evacuation mission ended with three soldiers killed when gunners shot down the craft.

Veterans Day Programs At Local Schools
Veterans Day programs were held at the high school and junior high Thursday with speakers Charles Hotle and Gifford Morrison. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organized it, with Harold Jarvis and Marion McAvoy introducing the speakers. The high school band, directed by Alan Bergstrom, performed as Carma Chorpening read the Constitution preamble while Mrs. Dennis Stutrud accompanied the junior high performance.
