A Davenport city column reports that the city council approved submitting the question of municipal ownership of Cramfield, currently operated from Davenport’s airport, to voters in the April city election.
A Washington community Armistice Day banquet, organized by Leon Beatty post and the Legion Auxiliary, drew about 150 veterans to the Y M C A. B B Hickenlooper of Cedar Rapids gave an ardent speech urging continued defense of liberty, with a "gold star mother" recognized and the program concluding with Taps.
MARSHALLTOWN The Marshall County Fish and Game Protective association announces a countywide fox hunt on Sunday November 21. Foxes are blamed for the scarcity of rabbits and pheasants in this community.
In Cedar Rapids the tram service ends on November 13 marking 46 years since it began in 1891. Regular bus service will start Sunday, replacing the street cars.
Fred Stanek a 38 year old Webster county farmer and four time national cornhusking champion returned from retirement to win the first annual Hushing Kings sweepstakes husking 34.75 bushels in 80 minutes for 500 dollars and a net of 2434.3 pounds.
A young man was found lying beside Highway 65 in Indianola and efforts to revive him failed. He was taken to Warren County jail where Dr. K. E. Shaw said the cause of his condition could not be determined. A tattoo reading R. C. H appeared on his arm and a girl’s picture on his shoulder. He was well dressed and had two pounds in his possession.
Waterloo police hunt a "human fly" suspect after a break in at East Waterloo High School. The thief climbed a 15 foot wall, pried open a window, and looted a locked drawer of 74 dollars.
Ronald Tib, 4, son of Mr and Mrs William Tibbits, died from a skull fracture after being run over by a gravel wagon. He was riding with his father when they turned into the farm yard at Clear Lake Bay.
Marshalltown merchant may gain a clear title to his home after the school board votes to accept his $400 offer for a lot portion he bought from a party not owning it. The sale needs district voters approval in an upcoming election.
Ed Brayton a 75 year old retired farmer was found dead in his six room house on the town's west edge. An ax and two wedges lay beside him and the parlor floor was bloody. Coroner Kenneth Boughton and Dr F P Shaw ruled the death a heart blood clot with a possible fall onto a tool.
State Senator D W Kimberly longtime Republican and dean of the Iowa senate died at age 66 after nearly 24 years in the legislature. He held the all time record for continuous service in the Iowa legislature.
In Des Moines a three year old boy named Bobby Allen Hayes son of separated parents died after accidentally shooting himself above the eye with a .32 caliber revolver while playing. Authorities reported the incident occurred at the family home and the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation focuses on how the firearm was left accessible and whether safeguards were in place. No other persons were harmed.
Passengers aboard the Pan American Clipper were thrown from seats and lightly injured when the airship encountered the edge of a typhoon sweeping five Philippine provinces. The ship was en route between Manila and Baguio when the storm struck.
Burglars broke into the West Chester school building last night and rifled the office desk drawers but found no funds. Deputy Sheriff Stan Kiesey investigated, with authorities unsure if the break-in is linked to other recent school burglaries in the area. Superintendent M J Tandy noted no money remained in the building due to prior measures, and Washington High School reported no funds left either.
Albert Orcutt owner of the Piggly Wiggly and Just Rite Grocery opens the Sigourney Food Market this weekend. He is closing his Melcher store to stay closer to his three businesses and expand delivery and customer service in northeast Washington.
The Y pool will reopen Saturday for members and all Y classes after reconditioning. The chlorinator has been reconditioned the water changed and the pool cleaned. It is in excellent condition for the winter. Boys' classes will be resumed Saturday morning.

Iowa's highway death toll jumped to 478 after six fatalities around Armistice Day. Victims include Mrs. Ernest Buenzow of Tripoli and H O Bierie of Waverly in a train collision near Du Mont. Others die in crashes near Clear Lake College Springs and Otelwein.
Washington shoppers included Mrs Grace Oaks and Mrs Oscar Hale both of Wapello Mrs John Anwyl and daughter Isabelle Mr and Mrs J W Robertson all of Crawfordsville and Mr and Mrs T K Johnston of Columbus City.
Mrs. Rose Reid heads the annual Red Cross roll call reporting early indications of strong turnout this year. Despite yesterday’s holiday, canvassers in residential areas reported more members than last year as the drive opens in earnest. Reid will receive reports at the YWCA Saturday afternoon and memberships may be left at local banks. the county goal is 1,000 members.
Col Robert J Shaw of Sigourney told a high school audience that disarmament cannot ensure peace. He urged universal draft neutrality and robust defense, arguing the World War era showed peace comes from strength and warning against signing papers to ban war. The program included a bomb salute, flag raising, school songs, and remarks by local officials.
The American Legion led skating rink plan on South Fourth Avenue awaits cold weather to freeze a football practice site converted into a rink for public free use. Flood lights and benches will be provided by local partners with Iowa Southern Utilities supplying free power.

Coroner W. H. Kyle and Deputy Sheriff Stan Kiesey search to identify a man about 60 found dead in Milwaukee yards near a hobo camp. No papers. Likely natural causes with no violence. Fingerprints taken. About $2.30, a dollar watch, pencils and shoestrings found. Found by Bob Trask, a railroad employee. Foot deformities indicate a limp and prior rupture.
Five Wigglesworth children aged young perished in a tar paper shack fire in Olivet Michigan. The parents Harold and Mrs Wigglesworth left early to milk cows leaving a cook stove and an oil lamp burning. The home was obscured by a hill and smoke was spotted after dawn.
