State Takes Lead on Mental Health Policy in Iowa
Iowa Governor Norman A. Erbe told the Governors Conference on Mental Health that state leadership is essential for mental health programs. He cited a shift from custodial care to treatment centers, with admissions rising but average stay dropping, and a reduction in hospital population from 6,000 in 1950 to 3,700 this year. Dr J Raymond Chadwick 65 president of Iowa Wesleyan College since 1950 died after being stricken on a New York street. He had presided at the dedication of the Adam Trueschmann Hall of Science and guided a selective 75 student enrollment. Survived by widow Mrs Chadwick, memorial gifts asked for to the college. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
