A jury of two women and 10 men will hear the case of Robert Whiting charged with negligence in driving failure to report an accident and manslaughter following the July 20 death of Georgy Folkerson of Aplington. Folkerson, a CEC camp member, was struck on the east Eldurn high bridge while returning to camp.
Rath Packing company opens subscriptions for a 500000 dollar issue of 6 percent preferred stock to fund further plant expansion. President John W. Rath notes ongoing construction including two new buildings an addition to the boiler house and to the beef house as the firm grows from a small start to a major independent packing concern with annual slaughter exceeding 1.3 million animals.

The Washington Post Office announces bids for carrying mail on all star routes in several states including Iowa. Proposals due January 15 to the second assistant postmaster general, covering July 1 1935 through June 36 1939. Routes listed include Washington to Muscatine, Washington to Sigourney, and Iowa City to Washington. A fourth route Washington to Mr Pleasant is under petition.
Washington County plans its second annual corn show at City Hall November 19 20 21 directed by County Agent W J Roudabush and sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Past success and 149 entries set a high bar with prizes including a silver loving cup and cash awards.

Raymond Sinn pled guilty to embezzlement while in charge of banks for the state banking department. The judge sentenced him to up to five years in Fort Madison but suspended the term on good behavior and placed him on parole under Sheriff-elect Arnold M. Putnam. State Attorney George F. Morrison and T. L. Brookhart appeared in court. Lino waived arraignment. Clarence VY. Streigel, held on a nuisance charge, waived grand jury challenges.

Frank M. Belgrano newly elected American Legion commander met with President Roosevelt at the White House to push for immediate payment of the soldiers' bonus.
