Former state senator M L Bowman of Waterloo challenged Governor John Hammill to a joint open debate on the Farmington road bond issue in Van Buren county. Hammill planned to speak at Farmington about road improvements as voters consider the bond. Bowman sent the challenge from Corning where Hammill was attending school dedication ceremonies.
