Thieves Hit Seven Washington Businesses Overnight
Seven Washington businesses were broken into overnight with little loot found. Night patrols discovered the Town & Country Plymouth on North Iowa Avenue at 11 03 p m with 22 in change missing. Coffee Car on Washington Street showed 2 in change and 10 in goods taken. Other sites included Sueppels 66 Station, Freshwaters Feed Grain, Hotle Feed Grain, Horak Insurance, and Soil Conservation Service with minimal or no losses.

CENTERVILLE Iowa UPI Iowa-Southern Utility Co announced a 5.7 percent rise in natural gas prices effective after November 22. Officials said the increase follows a rate hike by Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Co and that overall gas costs have risen 7.4 percent since last December for customers.

The Iowa Department of Transportation plans a three year test to find the best way to make plates glow in the dark. A 1.3 million savings is projected, with about 600,000 Linn Johnson and Scott county plates to use beaded paint. White letters will be reflectorized while the green background will not. indenting, not raising, the letters and numbers.

Ted Fritz a 40 year old Beardstown Illinois salesman was treated at St Luke s Hospital after spending most of the night wandering through northeast Iowa beanfields following a car crash in Backbone State Park Authorities said he vanished after being found in the wreck by a farmer and reappeared eight hours later wandering along a road more than 40 miles from the park Fritz recalled nothing but wandering across fields during the night and the incident ended with his hospital admission authorities reported the car struck a tree in drizzle and fog.

Carter approves Alcan Alaska gas pipeline plan
President Carter signed a resolution approving a privately financed 4700 mile Alaska to lower 48 gas pipeline via Canada. The Alcan route, chosen over El Paso and Arctic Gas, could cost at least $10 billion and possibly finish by 1983. It would deliver about 5 percent of U.S. gas at a rate of 2.4 bcf daily, with average delivery cost around $1.05 per thousand cubic feet.
