Road to Wyman to Be Paved in 1963
The Iowa Highway Commission plans paving next summer for the road from highway 218 to Wyman and east to Winfield. County engineer Bob Huber reported bids will be invited on December 11. The project covers about six miles split between Washington and Louisa counties with asphaltic concrete.

Plans for Holiday Decorating Underway in City
City plans for Christmas decorations in the Washington business district are under way led by Tom Duncan, committee chair, and Cub Lobner, Chamber of Commerce secretary. Work will start before Thanksgiving and pledges for the decorating fund are coming in steadily. A daily coupon in the Evening Journal invites pledges to the Chamber office. The supplier of last year's decorations will replace garlands on Central Park centerpiece damaged by weather.

Pick Corn For Emery Rhodes
Sixty five men with 170 corn pickers gathered at the Emery Rhodes farm north of Washington to harvest 100 acres of corn. The effort included a noon meal cooked by 22 women with donations from Jarvis Appliance Store and gasoline donated by Hubert Bernanek. Rhodes, 10 miles north of Washington, was badly injured in a late summer accident and remains in hospital.

Fifty volunteers packed the Tuberculosis Association’s 1962 Christmas Seals for mailing. Mrs Louise Woods and Mrs E D Morrison Jr led the meeting with reps from every township. A skin testing program by Mrs Ray Glover and Mrs Suter found five reactors among 1223. A mobile x ray unit provided chest x rays.
