Ronald Kloberdanz three years and a half old died when the five ton gravel truck struck him after he got off a bus. He was the son of Mr and Mrs John A Kloberdanz of Waterloo. Waterloo recorded its fifth traffic fatality of 1943.
The Iowa state conservation commission reminded hunters they must have permits to store game longer than ten days after season end. Application blanks are available at cold storage plants or from the commission. Permits extend storage to June 30 1944 for most game, with waterfowl permits allowing 45 extra days.
William Meka 35 of North Liberty IA died in Iowa City hospital after a crash that killed two others near North Liberty. Victims include Leo Meka 26, his brother, and Anna Sterba 26 of Kansas City Kan sister-in-law to Leo.
The McGregor post office faced a mess when a quart jar of sorghum mailed to a local friend broke, soaking hundreds of letters. Postmaster Frank Huebsch and staff washed each letter by hand and dried them on radiators after the spill.

The Sears Roebuck prize was open to one contestant from each county. she is the daughter of Mrs Rose Sojka in Jackson township and a member of the Fairview Farmerettes 4-H club.

Practically complete but unofficial returns show Simeon St. Willis won Kentucky governor against Democrat J. Luter Donaldson with Willis 278,219 to 270,152. Willis is the sixth Republican governor and first since 1927. Republicans also captured lieutenant governor and other offices while the Senate remained Democratic.
The junior high reports Miss Potter will resign effective December 22 to marry, with authorities saying her contract may end earlier if a successor is secured before that date.
Washington residents report the national war fund total at 3493.07 dollars driven by 49 canvassing women led by Mrs. E B Hammer who sent in 212 dollars. Women aim to overtake the men in the business district and still need about 1000 to reach their town quota of 4506.6 dollars toward county goals.
Fanny Knox aged 73 died yesterday afternoon at her sister Mrs. Alice Meeker's Riverside home after a stroke a week earlier. Funeral services by L A Jones will be at the Meeker home Saturday at eleven, with Rev. F W Eastwood of Washington presiding. burial at Ottumwa. Surviving are brothers William Knox and Isaac Knox, and sisters Mrs. Lucy Blystone Mrs. Ella Miller and Mrs. Meeker. one brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
The Baptist church will dedicate a service flag Sunday evening bearing 55 stars for armed services members and one WAVES member. The Ann Judson circle leads the observance which also honors gold star mother Mrs Manetta Workman. Carol Forgey will speak on The Significance of the Flag after the flag is unveiled.
Joseph Gene Nayadley of route one Washington applied for enlistment in the United States navy and will go to Des Moines next Wednesday for his physical examination. Navy recruiter Paul W. Shearer said changes in the Washington recruitment schedule will cut visits to every two weeks. He noted the navy seeks 60 000 more WAVES women to enlist and Washington women may consult Mrs. Pal Heer Schilling.
Surveys show combustion efficiency in coal use is too low and could cut 300 million tons per year by 10 to 15 percent with properly adjusted drafts. Drafts should be adjusted for efficiency and piping kept leak free.
U S troops armed with tanks machine guns and bayonets moved into the Tule Lake center after an explosive situation. About 26 internees were said wounded as Col Verne Austin reported. Army troops rounded up 509 recalcitrant Japanese for questioning after holding National War Relocation director Dillon Meyer and 10 white staff for four hours during the Monday demonstration.
