Iowa welfare estates yield funds from closed cases

The state social welfare board said 17,648 recipients with closed cases have yielded 1,480,524 in recoveries, while the 17,645 persons had drawn 11,241,039 in monthly assistance checks.

Two Killed in Iowa City Interurban Crash
In Johnson County Iowa City two people died and a third was seriously injured when the cart they rode was struck by an interurban railway car at the edge of North Liberty. Coroner Frank L. Love identified the deceased as Leo Meka 26 of near North Liberty and Anna Sterba of Kansas City Kan his sister-in-law. William Meka 35 brother of Leo was in critical condition at Mercy hospital with a broken neck severe shock and other injuries.

Crowd Theater For Premiere Big Army Show
The motion picture This is the Army had a Washington premiere at the State theater drawing a packed house at $1.12 a ticket to aid the army emergency relief fund.
