Fort Dodge resident James A. Fyffe aged 48, a clerk at the state liquor store, was found shot dead in his home. A note read he was tired and wanted to rest. Webster county coroner Dr. A L Lundgren ruled the death unquestionably by his own action.
Carroll Vernon Bernholtz aged two son of Mr and Mrs John Bernholtz died at a local hospital from cuts suffered when he fell on a fruit jar. He was playing in the basement while his mother washed clothes.
Two unidentified gunmen roped an Economy gas station in Cedar Rapids. They struck John Hubac as attendant, scattered forty five dollars in the till, and fled down an alley after being frightened away. Little missing.
World famed violinist and composer Fritz Kreisler resumes concert work after a five month summer rest and will perform Saturday night at Shrine Auditorium in Des Moines.
Clarence E. Harper president of Harper Mercantile Wholesale Hardware Co died at Ottumwa hospital after prolonged illness. He was a well known figure across the state with connections in Cedar Rapids and Ottumwa.
Cedar Rapides attorney W. Crissman and insurance agent J. Shep Herd were released after arrest in the sixth precinct following a verbal clash over voters' names. The men, who were checking Republican votes, complained clerks did not call names loudly enough.
Final unofficial counts show Iowa City approved a 55000 community building project by a narrow 10 vote margin over the 60 percent threshold. The American Legion building, damaged by a 50000 fire last summer, will be transferred to the city and bond proceeds of 55000 will fund its reconstruction and redecorating as a new community center.

Dickinson plans to return to law practice after defeat. Herring backs the national recovery act in its original form.
Sheriff H H M Putnam and city police continue investigation into four fur coats stolen from the Rothschild store. The coats were returned from storage and likely taken the same day they were unpacked, with leads developed but no arrests yet.
Ames students settle a campus bet on election results as three Iowa State college co-eds push three boys in baby carriages along the campus in a playful demonstration. Names include Marybelle Thompson Dorothy Badman Dorothy Smith with Harold Hofstrand and Darwin Larson among others.

Funeral services set for Saturday in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. A. L. Gilchrist, who has been visiting her sister Mrs. T. T. Keeley for the last month, has returned to her home in Sandwich, Illinois.
Hundreds of calls were handled at the Washington telephone office including local and long distance as election returns came in. Manager Charles Crane organized special arrangements for abnormal traffic and operators delivered rapid service. Carl Haven added an extra line at the Journal office to support the volume during election night.

Judge P J Siegers of Grinnell opens the November term in Washington County as the first term under his appointment by Governor Herring He defeated A E Baldrige of Washington in a close district race by 250 to 300 votes The November grand jury was impaneled but excused for lack of business and may be recalled later in the term.
The Boy Scouts of Southern Iowa plan the second annual Scout Circus at the Ottumwa armory Coliseum on Friday with 600 to 800 Scouts expected. The show features fire making, first aid, sea rescue, model airplanes, and clowns in a strictly timed program.
