President Hoover weighs two methods to unlock 1.5 billion dollars in frozen real estate mortgages. A national real estate board or rediscount banks could take mortgages from lenders, extend credits, and delay payments or only charge interest until homeowners regain solvency.

United Press reports that China charged Japan is steadily extending its grip on Manchuria and penetrating into northern Manchuria near the Russian sphere of influence, while Tokyo denied occupying Taitsihar or advancing north of the Noun river despite Japanese forces in the area. Chinese troops allegedly fled toward Mukden as Japanese troops moved to control bridges and rivers.

Wayne Norman of Washington county finished fifth in the district corn husking contest held yesterday at the Roy Curtis Farm near Donohue in Scott county. Stazill of Louisa county won by husking 1 859 pounds. Norman claimed 1 75 pounds. The event drew a dozen competitors from seven eastern Iowa counties with places two through four going to Muscatine Louisa and Cedar counties.
