Nelson G. Kraschel former Iowa governor declines to attend the Iowa Democratic dinner. He will not hear Mayor Edward J. Kelly of Chicago deliver the principal address, saying he won’t honor the man who helped defeat Henry A. Wallace in 1944.
Ray Furnal, 22, of Des Moines pled guilty to larceny in Knoxville. Judge Charles Bruce fined him 100 dollars with costs and suspended 80 dollars for good behavior. Four juveniles arrested with Furnal were released to Polk county juvenile court. The group was linked to thefts from Ed Parker of Bussey, including a hydraulic jack, log chains, and a shovel, during night prowling near Marion county properties.
The Federal Communications Commission Friday granted three FM licenses for Iowa stations. Recipients include The Gazette Co. in Cedar Rapids Telegraph-Herald in Dubuque and Josh Higgins Broadcasting Co. in Waterloo.
Estherville Woodrow Starkey, 33, already convicted for driving while intoxicated, pleaded guilty to a second offense in District Judge Fred M. Hudsons court. He was fined 500 dollars plus costs, with 200 dollars and costs paid and the remainder suspended. His license was revoked for 60 days by Sheriff M. F. Eck.

Twelve townships are complete led by Seventy-six with 551.80 toward a 450 quota and Wash ington township contributed 613.40 toward 500. Ten rural districts have not yet reported and additional gifts may arrive. Headquarters in the court house lobby led by Mrs. Ferne Minick will close today with further contributions to Mrs. Harriet Coulter at the courthouse office.
Two notices about the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid meeting were printed, one correct and one not. The session is set for 2 PM Thursday November 8 at 321 South Marion Avenue with hostess Mrs A E Anderson.

British and American commands declared Cairo out of bounds for a second day. police cordoned the area as shops closed and panic spread. Alexandria remained tense but quiet as authorities urged calm.
Batavia reports President Sukarno urges nationalist followers to cease attacks on allied occupation forces. British and Indonesian authorities declare a truce in Magelang allowing evacuation of civilians and the escort of a group of Japanese. British deploy additional infantry to Soerabaja and tanks to Magelang to enforce observance.
The Pearl Harbor investigating committee faced a political clash over allegedly missing or destroyed government records and Roosevelt papers. Republicans push to reopen the probe while Democrats control the panel, with Brewster and Ferguson warning of potential missing files and Barkley pledging collective action if papers are missing.

Funeral services for Dr. Telford, longtime Christian church minister, were held yesterday in Fort Madison and in Washington. Rev. Thomas Polk led the service with hymns by Mrs. Robert Fulton and Eleanor Tucker. Burial followed at Elm Grove cemetery with pallbearers Claude Tucker, Leslie Dunlap, Howard Caldwell and three Fort Madison church members.
Washington business houses and offices will observe Armistice Day on Monday November 12 since the holiday falls on Sunday. Most stores and establishments will close, including poultry houses barber shops lumber yards and the Y M C A public library and post office will be closed as a legal holiday. theater schedules show matinee at 2 30 and features at 7 and 9 15 with Christmas in Connecticut at the State.
Washington county V F W members plan the Keota post’s institution Monday evening. They meet at the V F W Ball at 6 46 and the Washington degree team will initiate a large class into the new post. Several members in the western part of the county transfer to Keota to be nearer home.
Downtown street corners and most business buildings will display the familiar Buddy Poppy as volunteers offer the symbol in return for voluntary contributions to the V I W welfare fund. The drive seeks public support through the donation drive led by local volunteers.
A former Filipino collaborator testifies at Yamashita’s war crimes trial that a Japanese order to destroy Manila and kill civilians was issued as Allied forces neared. He cites Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita’s firm rejection of any halting of the killings. The witness, Lapuz, recalls General Ricarte pleading against plunder and murder as Yamashita reportedly shrugged, war being war.
