The Hawkeye area reports a town nearly gutted by fire with six business block losses. A Shueyville post office safe was robbed of two dozen pocket knives eyeglasses recovered aims unclear. Cunningham loses a hand in a Coggan corn shredder accident. Insurance partly covers Hawkeye fire losses totaling fifteen thousand dollars.
Elmer Sloan of Traer was arrested here for burglary of a Traer jewelry store. Goods taken were found in his possession and he will be returned there for trial.
A telegram from San Francisco dated November 3 reports the Fifty-first Iowa volunteers are en route home. If no delays occur they will arrive Monday morning for a welcome parade, speeches, and a dinner at 11 o'clock. Some sick soldiers remain in hospital in San Francisco for care.
Three hundred grain dealers from across Illinois gathered in Champaign for a University of Illinois tour and a banquet at the Hotel Beardsley. The group adopted a plan to appoint a three member committee to secure legal representation for members in rail and elevator litigation and to pursue car famine relief through court action. They also discussed regular dealers and decided to compile a vetted list to ban irregulars, with big dealers urged to buy only from listed regulars or face blacklisting.

In Rowan Ta on Nov 3 John Owens' three young children perished in a house fire while parents were away. A nearby gang of railroad graders, twenty rods away, could not save the children as flames spread rapidly.
A lantern dropped into hay at Peter Olk’s farm near Racine Wisconsin igniting a blaze that destroyed the barn granary and farm equipment with about five thousand dollars in loss. The family saved the house and the sky lit by flames was visible for miles.
The October report from Hartford City Indiana shows record oil production for the year so far and suggests cold weather will hardly dampen crevrations. Ex Governor Alvin Saunders died yesterday in Omaha.
