Mrs Ella A Boole retires as president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in New York announcing that repeal seems likely. She is succeeded by Mrs Ida B Wise Smith of Iowa. Boole says the group will focus on education and urge complete abstinence to restore prohibition.
Evangelist Harter wraps up four week revival at the horseshoe club building with Sunday evening service. About 1,400 attended first week as crowds pressed in nightly. The Harrters plan to return to Washington to assist Rev. Stevens in a city-wide campaign. Wednesdays topic is The Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Thursdays Prophecy. Fridays divine healing. Saturdays friends night. All Christians in Washington are invited.

Mrs Eva May Davison wife of John W Davison died last night at the family home 215 South Second avenue after a five to six year illness that began with pneumonia and complications. Funeral services set for Thursday at Shermans funeral home. Born February 22 1866 in Seventy Six township she married John W Davison September 3 1885. Survived by husband five children William Roy Mary Eva Dora May Charles Smith and Johnnie Jay Davison, 24 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister Mrs Will Mater. She was active in the Methodist church and local lodges notably the Rebekahs and Pythian Sisters.
Clarence Updegraff announced a request for state agents to aid Iowa City police and Johnson county sheriff in curbing intoxicants during Dad's Day events Friday and Saturday. The move follows renewed athletic relations with Ames as Iowa State College and University officials seek to prevent a homecoming like problem.
The eastern district of the Chiropractic Society of Iowa will hold its regular meeting in Washington next Sunday with a dinner and program at the Congress hotel. Dr H BR Downing of Jefferson will preside. Speakers include Dr H C Chance on neurology, Ralph Evans on School Activities, Dr H C Hender on Psychiatry, and Dr A Hender on Gynecology.
The Washington county Sunday school convention will be held on November 8 at Ainsworth Methodist church. The Washington Little Symphony Orchestra under Milburn McKay opened the 1934 season with a concert for junior college and high school students in the high school auditorium. The 51-member group includes 30 violins, 9 brass, 10 woodwinds, and 2 percussion. Regular practices occur twice weekly as preparations begin for the fall concert near mid November.
Special services are held this week at St. James Catholic Church for All Souls Day. Masses tomorrow morning are set for 4, 7, and 9 o clock with today’s masses at 6 and 9.
B F Hill of Cedar Rapids drove off primary road No 1 after his attention wandered while lighting a pipe. The car hit loose gravel and dashed into a ditch seven miles north of town. Hill escaped with little injury while his daughter Ethel Hill, a 4 passenger, suffered neckback injuries and was hospitalized at Washington county hospital. Doctors do not expect serious injuries. she may be discharged soon. Mr and Mrs George Struble of Iowa City visited here yesterday.
At seven in the morning on Friday a mass of thanksgiving will be held with benediction to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Sisters of Charity order.
