Death of Alvin C. Hasty at 85 in Kalona
Alvin C. Hasty aged 85 died around 7 20 this morning at his daughter Mrs Ora Stumpfs home south of Kalona after a heart attack. He had just returned from Excelsior Springs Mo where he spent four weeks and fell ill yesterday afternoon. Funeral services will be at Kalona Methodist church with Rev M O McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Richmond cemetery. The Marsh funeral home of Kevota handles arrangements. He lived many years on The Homestead Farm moving in February to reside with his daughter. Mrs Hasty died April 30 of this year. He was a long time correspondent for the Journal starting March 1618 writing from Homestead Farm English River township. he noted ten children born in his marriage to Sophia M Smith with several descendants and a life spanning from ox carts to tractors. He was born July 1, 1869 in a pioneer log cabin on The Homestead Farm. He joined the Methodist church in September 1892 and remained faithful until death.
