Bevins Heads to Evanston for National Music Contest
Karl Bevins earned a superior rating at the Town state contest and advances to the national high school music competition in Evanston Illinois June 9 and 10. He will perform a clarinet solo on June 8 with accompanist Miss Helen Coffey. Dan Bevins will drive a group from Fairfield including Milburn A McKay and Carl Rundquist. Karl to stay in Chicago about a week to perform at the world’s fair with the farm bureau band during the national contest.

Heights School Wins Washington City Track Championship
Heights School won the Washington city track meet held yesterday at Case Field under Y M C A sponsorship led by Stan Kiesey. North End edged Wallace 19 to 18 for team honors, with Lincoln third and Centennial fourth. Scott of Heights won the 40 and 60 yard dashes, Cox of Wallace took the high jump, Davis of Lincoln led the broad jump, Cox also won the baseball throw, and the 440 yard relay went to Wallace with Lincoln second and Heights third.

Woodburn Dies in Colorado After Long County Residency
James and Mrs. Marsh received notice of the death of J. A. Woodburn, longtime Washington county farmer. He died at his Palisade home in Colorado at age 79 from heart failure after a brief illness. Burial is in Grand Junction cemetery beside his daughter Martha. he was a well known neighbor of the Marshes for many years.

Mrs. Eliza Pickens, born 1858 near Wayland Iowa, died May 29 1948 in Colona Illinois at age 90.
