First Glider Flight Shows Soaring Thrill and Skill
I flew a two seat glider for 57 minutes with 52 minutes free flight. Bob Nady of Nevada, president of the Iowa Soaring Association, coached from Greenfield Airport. We climbed from 2,000 to 4,000 feet using thermals, circling to stay aloft and feeling the plane and air. A red tail hawk flew beneath us at 4,000 feet. The experience highlighted reading air currents and personal control in a quiet, windless ascent.
