Raid of Wilson and Forrest Ends With Selma Clash
In late March 1865 Union General James H. Wilson led a 15 000 strong cavalry raid into Alabama and Georgia aiming to pressure Mobile. Forrest countered with bold endurance around Selma and Maplesville, facing Long and White on decisive Maplesville engagements. Forrest survived a tense duel with Captain Taylor and the Union forces captured Selma as the campaign culminated in heavy fighting along Bogler's creek.
