Orioles Win Two: Stock shines in doubleheader sweep over Indians
The Orioles, led by Wes Stock's stellar relief work, swept a doubleheader from Cleveland to extend their lead to 2½ games. Stock pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the opener and shut out the Indians on one hit in the nightcap as Baltimore rallied with key hits from Boog Powell, Jackie Brandt, Jim Gentile, and Brooks Robinson. Dick Donovan took the loss in the opener while Mudcat Grant failed in relief in the nightcap. The rest of the league saw the Senators snap an eight game skid, while the Yankees, Tigers, Twins, and Angels won or lost varying games as the pennant race tightens.
