In Akron on May 27, a riot outside three Goodyear plants left at least 75 people injured, with thousands of union strikers clashing with 180 police. Fighting flared after midnight and continued until morning, as authorities feared possible National Guard involvement.
Dr. Arthur E. Morgan former board chairman charged TVA misled the public on project costs during a congressional hearing. He was joined by Walter Kohoe as they criticized actions that led to his ouster amid feuds with fellow board members David E. Lilenthal and H. A. Morgan.
Mrs. Josephine Rezebek and Mrs. Thomas Jondle depart for Czechoslovakia as part of a lodge delegation. They will hear Dictator Adolf Hitler during European travels with a July address planned by Hitler.
Jimmy Condon, a one armed magazine salesman, and partner Ellsworth Stevens were sentenced to 16 days in jail in Shenandoah for obtaining money under false pretenses by posing as ministerial students.
Fort Dodge reports that a 200 acre land purchase for Dolliver Memorial State Park in southern Webster County is under consideration. Senator W Edward Breen states the cost would be 3000 dollars, expanding total park area to 748 acres.
W L Knight an unmarried relief worker supporting seven relatives pleaded guilty to speeding in Sioux City. Municipal Judge Bh A Bernard told him he had no business driving and he escaped a five day jail term by surrendering his license for 60 days.
Des Moines reports Iowa old age assistance authorities act as middlemen in disposing of five pea cocks for an ailing pensioner who cannot care for the birds. The offer includes one old pair, two young hens and one young male.
Creston's Summit Lake water supply was 30 inches higher after a local cloudburst. The city Water Department drained as much as six tons of mud from the lake into the half million gallons of water pumped daily.
George Carlson 46 of Blairstown apparently dozed in a car that surged to Roosevelt school steps in Cedar Rapids. Police found him unconscious with foot on the accelerator the motor racing. He suffered facial bruises chest injuries and a severely injured nose.
Archie Amons pleaded guilty to perjury in a bootlegging case. He was convicted on the liquor charge and given one year. The perjury sentence was 10 years at Fort Madison, to run concurrently with the liquor term.
L. RB Swanson attorney for the Calhoun County Electric Cooperative says an obstacle is removed as the Iowa Continental Telephone Co agrees to rebuild its lines where power lines will parallel the phone lines to reduce induction interference.
John Philip Woods born December 16 1936 died at 12 20 today at the home of his grandparents 1025 North Second Avenue after ten days illness of pneumonia. Funeral services Sunday at 3 PM at Sherman’s funeral home conducted by Dr Arthur Atack burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Survived by parents Ralph and Maurine Benn Woods three brothers Theodore Russell Rodney Benn and Jen Lee Woods and both sets of grandparents Mr and Mrs T R Benn and Mr and Mrs P Woods.
Stanley McKeown longtime Benteco manager takes a one year leave of absence for outside work. Dale Fuhr, formerly of Lone Tree, assumes management duties here during the year with McKeown planning to return.

An organization formed with town representatives and committees to study actions, with Iowa City Kalona Sharon Center and Washington among participants. Additional meetings to be held later in Washington to coordinate broader town involvement.
Washington honors the world war dead with Poppy Day activities tomorrow. American Legion Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary will distribute hand made red poppies from U S Veterans hospitals. donations support disabled veterans and families. More than 10 million poppies will be worn and about 1 million dollars raised.
Mrs. 4 RR Crayton and her daughter Leone arrived home last night from Beloit Wisconsin where they were summoned by the death of Mrs R H Taylor Crayton's sister in law.

Florence Johnson, 34, was killed in her Chicago home by a man using a paving brick. He entered through the children's room window and attacked her as her sister and two children slept nearby. Police detained Thomas Crosley, 18, with blood on his coat sleeve and a cut finger, though he claimed involvement in another fight.
Two tons of grapefruit from the federal surplus commodities program were received at the county courthouse this week.
