A loaded coal car on a freight train going east derailed about 6 p m Saturday one mile from Richland station. A burned journal caused the car to leave the track tearing up 2000 ties. The line reopened at 5 a m Sunday with 5 mph limits through the damaged section.

Illinois couple injured in single car crash near Washington
A Sunday one car accident six miles south of Washington near the Izaak Walton League grounds involved W. W. Brown of Morton Grove Illinois. Brown and his wife were injured, taken to Washington County Hospital after the car lost control while attempting to pass two vehicles and struck a ditch post.

Former resident dies in Illinois
Mrs. Harry Arvanis aged 70 of Silvis Illinois died Sunday May 24 from a heart condition. The body will be brought to Ollie Baptist Church Wednesday at noon for services at 2:00 PM with Rev Orval Road officiating. Burial is in Ollie cemetery. She was born January 10 1894 near Ollie a daughter of Joe and Lucy Ingle and married in March 1913 to Mr. Arvanis. They lived in Moline 47 years where she worked in railroad shops since 1941. Surviving are two sons one daughter ten grandchildren two sisters Mrs Emery Ryals of Brighton and Mrs Bertha Barnett of Davenport and one brother Virgil Ingle of Ollie.
