About 6,000 Allied planes blasted axis Europe from the channel to Vienna with heavy attacks on Berlin and Paris from the west and southern strikes on Vienna. Shafer Sentenced to Eldora and Paroled
Warren Junior Shafer, driver of the deadly wreck north of town last Sunday killing a 17 year old girl, was arraigned before Judge P. J. Siccers. He was sent to Eldora state school for boys until 21 with suspended sentence on good behavior and paroled to Sheriff H. M. Putnam. The judge urged revoking his license until 21 and ordered disposal of the car. Shafer cannot own a car until age 21. He will not be 16 until next month. Springfield Army Ordnance Armory marks its 160th birthday this month.

Gerald Neff Dies in Highway Crash Near Riverside
Gerald LeRoy Neff 27 of Washington county died when his pickup struck a halted light truck on highway 218 south of Riverside. Ruth Smith, 17, a passenger, was injured but not seriously. Neff was born August 8, 1914 in Henry county and survived by wife Anna Cochran, two sons, parents, and two brothers in the armed forces. Funeral services are planned at Cottonwood church.

Farmer Killed in Auto Crash Near Charles City
Charles City area farmer Cyrus Be. Hoy died early Tuesday when his car veered into a six foot ditch and overturned. The vehicle, owned by Clifford Quade of Oakwood, had stopped briefly near Charles City before Hoy took the wheel. Quade and his wife suffered minor bruises.
